I began to enjoy ‘’Do It Yourself’’ projects when I became a mom. Motherhood, after all, entails giving and doing all the best for your little ones, right? Each day, step, milestone, and every detail must be outstanding for her.

This attitude blossomed out of me when we planned for her first birthday celebration. I have been concentrated and, ironically, enjoyed the preparation – from selecting a theme, the venue, enjoyable menu for both parents and kids, memorable giveaways, seating and table arrangements, and the most delightful cake possible. But some will say that she will not appreciate it yet or that she will not remember it anyway, so why bother. Well, they may have a point. But for me, I still indulged her with that experience because when she will grow older, I’ll have photos to show her – something to look back on and reminisce of how much I love her from the day she came to my life.
Suddenly, the pandemic struck. Less than a week before my daughter’s first birthday celebration, Enhanced Community Quarantine was declared. A day supposed to be full of fun and exciting activities for my girl and all our loved ones, which I prepared for more than three months, was cancelled just like that. I was distraught; however, I must put our family’s health first. It was the right decision we took that time, even so until this pandemic ends.
In my determination to still give my child a memorable first birthday party, I began my in-depth research for home-themed set-up inspirations from Pinterest, among others. Next, I watched video tutorials from YouTube for DIY projects based on the party theme I selected. And then, I purchased materials mostly through online shopping, since I cannot go out of the house. Lastly, I applied what I learned and created a masterpiece, well, for my girl, I think.

It did not just stop there; it continues up until now. Since then, I managed to provide her with fun, educational, and various activities that reduced her screening time while we are locked at home. Not only did she benefit from those but I also found these DIY projects as a way to destress myself. A great way as well to bond with little one. Indeed, happiness starts from oneself. By doing it from and within yourself, happiness radiates.
